FOOD SECURITY: FAAN TO SUPPORT PLATEAU STATE IN AGRICULTURE

Mrs. Kuku with H.E Govr. Caleb Mutffwang

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has agreed to collaborate with the Plateau state government in developing agriculture in the State in aid of food security. This is the outcome and subject of discussion between the State’s Governor, H.E Caleb Mutfwang at a meeting with FAAN’s managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, yesterday at Yakubu Gowon Airport, Hipang, Jos, capital of Plateau state.

During the meeting says a press release by Mrs. Obiageli Orah
Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, FAAN, Mrs. Kuku assured the Plateau State Governor of FAAN’s support in the state’s ambition to become a major hub for agricultural produce as well as to improve Nigeria’s economy through airline cargo by transporting its products across the nation where they will be needed.

The FAAN managing Director described Plateau state as rich in agrarian products worthy of being traded locally and globally. She also assured the Governor of FAAN’s readiness to collaborate with the state government in setting up its cargo terminal to facilitate a seamless transportation of the State’s produce.

However, she advised the State to start small by creating marketing days when dealers on farm produce and consumers can converge to buy her produce as a means of testing and creating markets for its produce while awaiting the cargo terminal.

In the words of Mrs. Kuku, “Your Excellency, Plateau State is poised to stand as one of Nigeria’s leaders in producing and transporting agricultural products, my team is willing to work very closely with you and the expanded aviance cargo team. While we may need to put up some major cargo infrastructure, I don’t think we need to wait. I will suggest that we make this modular. Let’s start within our immediate environments. We can start marketing some of your perishable items and creating market days when we invite people from across the country to fly in and buy these products. That will spur those who are willing to invest in testing, packaging, crating, storing and transporting these produce across the country. The possibilities are endless.”

Before letting Mrs. Kuku go, the determined Plateau state Governor, Caleb, expressed his gratitude to FAAN, while resolving not to rest on his oars until the dream of the State is achieved. Mrs. Kuku used the opportunity offered by the meeting to take a tour of the Yakubu Gowon airport facility for familiarization.
